From 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. we run a dedicated Safe Ride lane out of the Cotton District, the Main St taverns and Bulldog Drive, straight back to the apartment complexes and the freshman dorms. $15 for the first rider, $3 for each person after that.
- You know who’s coming. Dispatch texts you the driver’s name and the vehicle before it pulls up.
- Door to door, not corner to corner. We wait at the actual entrance, not two blocks away with the meter running.
- The price you were quoted is the price. Late night is exactly when surge pricing hurts. Ours doesn’t move.
- Short on cash at 2 a.m.? Tell dispatch when you text. We’d rather sort it out than leave you standing there.

Home-game Saturdays we run a straight shot from the downtown hotels, the Highway 12 outposts and off-campus Starkville right to Davis Wade Stadium and The Junction. Flat $25 — and on this lane extra riders ride free, so pack the car.

How do I actually book a ride?
Text 662-273-0715. Tell us where you are, where you’re going, how many people and roughly when. Dispatch replies with the price, the driver and an ETA. If you use the fare calculator above, the “Book this ride” button writes that whole message for you — you just add the time and hit send.
Is the price per person or per car?
Per car. The base rate covers the first rider and the vehicle; each additional rider adds a small amount — $2 on the Campus lane, $3 on Late-Night Safe Ride, $5 on the GTR airport run, and $0 on Game Day. A four-person Cotton District trip is $16 total, not $40.
Do you charge more late at night or when it’s busy?
No. There is no surge multiplier and no weather pricing. The Late-Night Safe Ride lane has its own flat rate of $15 because it runs a different area and different hours — but that $15 is the same at 10 p.m. on a Thursday and at 2:45 a.m. after a home game.
How far in advance should I book the airport?
For Golden Triangle Regional (GTR), text us at least the night before if you can — earlier during finals week and the days around Thanksgiving and spring break, when half of campus is flying out at once. The run is $45 from campus or anywhere inside Starkville city limits, plus $5 per extra rider.
How many people fit?
Up to six riders per vehicle. If your group is bigger than that, text us anyway — on busy nights we can usually send two vehicles out together rather than making half your group wait.
How do I pay?
Pay the driver directly — cash or a payment app. There’s no card on file, no account, and no booking fee tacked on at the end.
Are you part of Mississippi State?
No. HailState Cruisin’ is the rider-facing name of DJtrans, an independently owned Starkville transportation business. We serve MSU students and visitors and we drive to campus every day, but we are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Mississippi State University.
